using initials or abbreviations - need help understanding some

3 posts in this topic

I am fairly new to the board and oftentimes members use abbreviations or initials to describe a condition or a treatment. There are quite a few of these shorthands that I do not understand. Is there a glossary where I can find the explanation for these terms or can someone publish a list of these terms and their meanings for me and other newbies who need the explanations so that we can understand more fully what is being discussed in a particular post? Thanks!

Hi Smurfette,

I don't know whether there is a list of meanings for abbreviations, maybe one of the moderators will chime in soon.

If their is an abreviation you need to know, please let us know and we can help you. I have to admit that I tend to abbreviate medical terms quite often and I am sorry for doing this. I will try and remember to type in the whole word/s next time.

Take care

Celia

Hi, Smurfette. This link has recently been added to our Researching the Internet page:

All-Acronyms.com. Includes medical acronyms to help make sense of medical records and prescriptions.

Another page which has a lot of abbreviations explained is our What are Antibodies? page which explains a lot about the various tests and what the results might mean. As Celia says, if there is something specific, please ask.

Warm wishes,

Jefa
