Son is Home from Afghanistan for 2 Weeks!

15 posts in this topic

I am so excited - my son arrived last night from Afghanistan for a 2 week leave. He looked so good in his uniform. He flew in at 10:20 pm and we didn't get home until 3:00 a.m. and I'm exhausted but so thrilled to have him home. I know the 2 weeks will fly by but I plan on enjoying every minute.

I am trying to hide how sick I am as I don't want him to worry about me. He keeps asking me how I am and I just say "good" or "fine" and he says that I don't look like it. I know if I let on he will go back in 2 weeks and worry and he has more important things to be thinking about than worrying about me.

Just thought I'd share. Warm hugs,

Peggy

Peggy,

That's wonderful news!! Now, I'm going to do my "motherly" routine and tell you that because you're going to try to hide how you feel (your health), please don't over do. Please, please, please :) .

Do you suppose you could get a picture of your son in his uniform so we could see him?

Remember, take care!

Christy

Hi Peggy,

It sure IS good news that your son is home for a couple of weeks!

As far as what you share...in regard to how you really are...play it by ear...he may worry MORE if you don't share withhim how you're doing...only YOU know your son!

Enjoy the time you are able to spend withhim

Big Hugs,

Susie

Peggy, I hope you are getting some quality time with your son. Time has a way of taking off on us and befor we know it things must end. I hope you have had some fun excursions and fullfilling meals for your son to enjoy. We need good men like him. Give us an update when you have time. We will be here.

Just an update........................My son came to the lake yesterday to spend the day and it was great. You can tell he is exhausted and in fact today we were going to have all kinds of family come out to the lake to see him but he wanted to go home and rest. The Family Readiness Group advised us that when the soldiers are home on leave to let them dictate what they want to do and not to press alot of people on them if they're not ready so we listened to his wishes and came home. I know everyone wants to see him and hopefully we will be able to fit that in but when he's ready. It was good to see him eat as I know the diet and food change is huge.

I took everyone's advice and solicited help when I needed it and didn't try to do everything myself. I still found myself sound asleep on the couch when we got home and wasted the afternoon sleeping through it. This bothers me as it's a great summer afternoon and I feel guility that I'm not out enjoying it but I was just too tired and too sick to do it so what you can you do. There will be more nice days ahead before fall rolls in. It was 48 degrees this morning so fall doesn't feel too far away. Even at the lake I was the one covered in a blanket by the fire so my body sure has changed in that I get cold so much easier.

I hope no one minds updates on my son's visit home. I am just so proud of him and so very happy to have him home. He is in such danger when he's there and I worry so much that it's a relief to have a break from that worry even if it's for only a couple of weeks.

Warm hugs,

Peggy

Oh Peggy,

Mind getting updates about your son??!...Goodness NO! I for one, appreciate your taking the time to do so!

It's really good that you are given a pace for your son so that he doesn't become overloaded...the loving desire is there, yet the reality of his needs is first and foremost in yours and other family's loving minds/hearts.

To be proud of him and what he's doing? Very special!

Please let him know that I'm also very proud of what he's doing and that I thank him for his valuable service.

Special Hugs,

Susie

It's great news that your son is home! I hope you both get plenty of R&R as MWR activities (Morale Welfare Recreation!) during his leave! :D

Tell him an old ex-Army gal says thanks for all he's doing.

Peggy,

I hope you're enjoying every moment with your son while he's here on leave. Please thank him for protecting us and keeping us safe! Those outings by the lake sound lovely. The weather's been cooling off over here too which makes it easier to go out and relax. I hope you're feeling relaxed and please do keep us posted.

:)

Hugs,
