Trying to find my sense of humor...

Recommended Posts

Hi Ann,

I have not posted in a while, but reading your post made me feel like you just must not know where the next hit is coming from! It is almost like a bad sitcom plot! You have certainly had more than your share. But I must say that I like your style, asking for stuff to make you laugh! I have lots of movie recommendations. As for books - I read things that are rarely humorous so I cannot offer suggestions. I do have lots of movies to recommend. So here they are:

For oldies: Marx brothers movies - the stateroom scene on the cruise is a classic and all those horrible things they did to Margaret Dumont were hysterical.

My Favorite Year with Peter O'Toole as a drunk and fading actor was very funny

Shakespeare in Love -Romantic and Funny

Austin Powers - the first one, the others lose it

Blazing Saddles and some of the other Mel Brooks movies depending on how scatological your sense of humor

Clueless - it is really Emma California style but cute and winsome

Dirty Dancing - not funny, but fun to watch and the dancing makes you smile

Fish Called Wanda

Full Monty

Princess Bride

South Park Movie - again depending on your taste, but it was funny

any Disney animated movie is cute and Happy Feet was precious. There are also some that are fun to watch, not necessarily funny like Lord of the Rings, any movie based on a show like South Pacific, etc. They will keep you interested and can be upbeat and fun.

I wish you a speedy recovery and hope that since you have had your share that you all get oly good karma from now on!

I like watching old black and white sitcoms, like I love Lucy, 3 Stooges, Laurel and Hardy or Shirley Temple movies.

I like the 60's and 70's sitcoms, Three's Company, Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, Bewitched, Jennie

I love all the Vacation movies with Chevy Chase, especially the first one, very funny!

My favorite holiday movie is A Holiday Story.

For fun I like watching my collection of Disney animated videos and Disney movies. The comment about coloring with crayons is great because I also like doing that. It takes me back to my younger carefree life. When I used to watch my 4 year old niece, Olivia, we would cuddle up on the couch, pop in a video and watch it until one of us fell asleep, it was usually her. Or, I would watch her color and sneak in a little coloring myself. :)

Hope you're feeling better and don't LAUGH too hard!

Gentle hugs,

P.S. If you're at home, have someone bake a batch of cookies for you. The smell alone will put you in a splendid mood.

Live well, Laugh often, Love much

Ann, I'm so sorry you've lost your sense of humor. I've been trying to help you find it, looking high and low.

So far, I've cleaned out three closets, 14 junk drawers, and our storage room. We have looked under our couch cushions, where we found $1.13, my crochet hook, 2 mismatched socks, and some popcorn.

I'm really worried your sense of humor might have been stuffed away in the trunk of our car, along with some holiday presents we still haven't delivered since last year (rendering our trunk entirely useless).

I'm getting worn down by all this <kerchew!> cleaning and worry. Have you found your Sense of Humor yet, or do we all have to keep looking for it? If so, where should we look next?

Warm Hugs,

Shelley Ensz

Sorry for you predicament Ann, you sure have been given some great suggestions.

Smurfette I love Grease, I want to see it now!!! as my day has been awful.

Razz I loved Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley and Bewitched. National Lampoons anything!

I also loved Mork and Mindy, well until it got really weird and they had a grown up baby. Planes Trains and Automobilies is a classic and what about Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Steve Martin's funniest turn ever!

Shelley-you funny lady.

Hey Shelley - Thanks for the good laugh! And, yup, it hurt but it was worth it. Also, thanks everyone for all the great ideas. I have memorized the good tv shows channels (I've gotten into "The Golden Girls"). I think I may be doing damage to my eyes from all the reading and tv viewing (now wouldn't that just be a kicker!!). Just joking....I think. Thanks again everyone. You are the best! -Hugs, Ann
