Cholesterol And Scleroderma

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone knows if there is any connection between high cholesterol and scleroderma. My cholesterol has really jumped in the last few years and so have my symptoms re:scleroderma. Could medications play a part in this? Now I've had to add yet another med to my mile long list. It's frustrating. Any thoughts? - Ann

Hi Ann, I also have high cholesterol with Sleroderma. I just know I can't go off of my med for this. I tried once and my Cholesterol numbers went through the roof. I can't really say for sure if it's related or not. High Cholesterol runs in my family. Wish I could be of more help.

Take Care

I've had CRST for 30 years - but cholesterol is low (about 148), and my diet has plenty of fat and cholesterol (eggs every day!). I figure it's heredity.

Hello,

I haven't been diagnosed with scleroderma, but have sjogren's and 'evolving' according to my doctor. I have alot of symptoms of scleroderma, but get confused as there seems to be a commonality in symptoms with alot of these autoimmune diseases.

I just wanted to say that I have terrible problems controlling my cholesterol levels. I was quite ill last year and my specialist ordered blood tests. He said "at least your cholesterol levels will be down", as I had not eaten for 3 days......... Well it turned out my level was 8.5 the highest it has ever been! He had no explanation for it and it really worried me. I never had any problems with cholesterol until all the wierd things started happening to me with this disease that I have (whatever it may be :( ). H

Ann,

Funny you should mention cholesterol, i asked my doctor about it - my number since being diagnosed have from 130 to 215. i was flipping out when he gave me the numbers, asked him if it was connected...He basically said who know - he says he treats my symptoms as the arise and figures anything is possible and all changes in my symptoms, blood # should are reviewed...bottom line he told me not to worry, but everyone is different.

personally I think my rise in cholestorol #'s are directly related to the changes sclero has forced on me - lifestyle, food and environment.
