old scars reappearing?

Recommended Posts

Hello, has anyone had old scars become more visible and thicken?. This is happening from my hands down to my ankles(I was a clutz as a kid and have plenty!). Also I have abdominal insisions and they are hypertrophic. Im still classified as undifferentiated connective tissuse disease. Im not hoping for sclero(or anything else for that matter) just tring to find as much info on autoimmune conditions as I can.

Hi Doodlehead,

Did I miss welcoming you to the Forum? If I did, well then, I'll welcome you now!

I haven't had old scars change, but what I have had in the last couple of years is new scars being very fibrous and almost stringy. If I accidentally knock a nearly healed scab off, it seems to tear the adjacent skin to the wound in the lengthwise axis. That's a rotten description, but I hope you can picture what I'm talking about. I never remember to mention it to my doctor, so I have no idea whatsoever if he would think it is related to scleroderma or not.

We do have an article relating to wound healing that would seem to relate to new wounds.

Warm wishes,

Hi Doodlehead,

I haven't been on here for a really long time, but happened to be browsing and noticed your post. I know exactly what you are talking about. My scars seemed to thicken and the one I had from having my appendix out when I was six (I am 59) got really red and thicker. After many months they returned to a more normal size, although they are still thicker than they were before. I have Limited and was diagnosed about 1 1/2 years ago.

Doodlehead,

one of the first things I noticed when I came down with diffuse sclero was that scars that had previously faded became very visible again. It is interesting that you brought this up. I was a guest at a symposium for pre-med students and the curl in my hands was pointed out. They asked me if there was anything else and I mentioned the scars but the director didn't seem to make much of it.

Hi,

Well, I just seem to scar so much easier than I did before. Just a simple scrape and I'll have a scar. I was attacked by the rose bush as I pulled out a tree trying to grow there, sure enough, you can see the scratches pretty clearly and they are healed. The scratches left a white line. In the past, those scratches would have been invisible on me. I don't see old scars changing.

Mando.
