Calcinosis?

Recommended Posts

Happy Holidays everyone!

I have been having problems with my right hand fingers ever since it has gotten cold again. My index finger and middle finger are a lot more swollen then my other fingers. I have about six bumps about the size of a pea on my index finger. it is sore & red.. Something when my Raynaud's is acting up the bumps show up white. Could this be Calcinosis? Does calcinosis only come with the crest? I was told by my doctor that she believes that I have diffused sclero. I have taken a couple pictures and I will post them. I do have a doctors appointment in Jan.

Yes, it's calcium deposits. I have them on my feet, arms, ears and now thumbs. I was just at the doctor about this today. Thing is that once the little rocks pop out, they fill up again. Just one of the perks of this disease.

Hello Nina

According to the UK Scleroderma Society booklet Understanding & Managing Scleroderma about 42% of people with limited sclero develop calcinosis to 17% of people with diffuse.

We have a page on calcinosis that includes a picture. According to the information: Generally, there is no treatment required for calcinosis, although surgical excision is sometimes done for extensive or very painful calcinosis. Unfortunately it also says: no treatment has convincingly prevented or reduced calcinosis.

No doubt others with calcinosis will chime in with many handy hints and useful advice for dealing with calcinosis.

Take care.

Thanks Truman & Amanda,

I have read about Calcinosis before but I was not sure if that what it was. Does the cold weather seem to bring them out more?

Hope everyone had a Happy Holidays & a Happy New Years!

Nina
