Pre Pregnancy- Would Love Some Answers

9 posts in this topic

I am currently on Nexium twice per day for my reflux. While my ob/gyn and gastroenterologist say that Nexium is fine to take during a pregnancy, taking any drug (especially one relatively new) concerns me. Does anyone have any experience on the topic or advice to share? Any good alternatives to Nexium? (I have severe motility problems in my GI track esp my esophogas). Would love some answers! Thank you!

Stefanie

Hi Stefanie,

I wanted to welcome you to the sclero forums! I'm sorry you are battling GERD right now. I don't have any personal experience with Nexium and pregnancy, but I would think that if your OB/GYN said it would be OK, then it would. Of course not taking any drugs is the best during pregnancy, but sound like you need it!Here is a link for you to review Nexium during pregnancy.

Warm and gentle hugs,

Hi Stefanie,

Welcome to the forums! It is good to have you join us, but sorry it is because you are sick. I don't have any personal experience to help answer your question, but since BOTH your OB/GYN and your Gastro doctor said it would be safe, I would feel fairly confident in their responses.

I do hope you will come here and post often and let us get to know you a litle bit. I am sure you will find everyone here very warm, supportive and encouraging.

Again, welcome!

Warm wishes,

Heidi

Welcome Stefanie! I adopted my child so I don't know. I too have severe GERD and motility issues. I would think if the doctors say it's ok, it's ok. I also have scleroderma, CREST. I just found out in December.

Take Care!

Nan

Hi Stefanie

Can we safely infer from your question that you are already pregnant? If so, congratulations and best wishes for a safe and healthy delivery.

We have a section on Scleroderma and Pregnancy which may answer many other questions you may have about it, as well.

Hi Stefanie,

Welcome to the forums! I am so glad you have joined us here but I am sorry that you are suffering with gerd. When I had my two girls I didn't take any meds so I can't help you out with that but if you have any pregnancy questions related to sclero I might be able to help!

Hugs,

Lisa

Stephanie, just make sure you check withyour dr before taking any meds. This came from Medicinenet: PREGNANCY: Use of esomeprazole in pregnant women has not been adequately evaluated. If and when you do get pregnant, just be careful.

Good luck!
