I would love to tell you about our daughter Alana Kate, who was born December 9, 1983, and died February 18, 1985. She was so brave and beautiful!
We have a son, Luke, who was born at twenty-eight weeks. He is now twenty-two years old and fine. We decided to try for another baby, but unfortunately I ended up having six miscarriages.
After the sixth miscarriage, we decided to have one more try, and I found I was having Alana. I had to have a stitch put in at thirteen weeks. I was on bed rest for the rest of my pregnancy, and I had to have a cesarean.
When Alana was born she started having breathing problems and had to be put on a ventilator. At twelve weeks, she had a lung biopsy. This told us that she had Fibrosing Alveolitis. We were totally devastated when we knew she was going to die.
Alana gave us the most precious fourteen months of our life. She always had a smile for everyone, and because of Alana we now look after profoundly handicapped children.
