This calcium nodule (calcinosis) is an ugly thing, with lots of irregularities to hang onto flesh. My wife has had scleroderma for about 30 years. She is now having painful calcium nodules forming in her fingertips. (Also see: What is Scleroderma?, Scleroderma Symptoms, and Calcinosis)

The particle shown on the dime (below) followed a smaller particle which was removed from the same fingertip about 3 weeks ago.

The finger failed to heal and my wife picked at the second piece of calcium for about 2 weeks before it finally came out.

Painful calcium deposits are supposed to be removed by a doctor to help prevent infection or complications, although sometimes they burst or come out on their own. (Also see Photo of Calcinosis on Dime)

Calcinosis on DimeA year and a half ago, her doctor stopped her Raynaud's medication for emotional purposes. Her fingers were turning white regularly. They have not turned white all winter this year. She was using a wrap that was heated in the microwave oven then and no longer owns one. (Also see Heat Sock Directions)

Her hands were getting so painful that she could not button her blouse or put in her ear rings. She is now doing both. I have administered magnetic touch therapy daily followed by rubbing her whole body with Natures Gate Skin Therapy Lotion over that period. This could be due to relaxation improving her circulation, or to the natural course of waxing and waning of scleroderma symptoms.
